Timgad Collection

Timgad is an ancient Roman city located in Algeria, Africa. It was founded by the Emperor Trajan in 100 AD as a military colony. The city was built on a rectangular grid plan and surrounded by walls with four gates. Inside the city were public baths, a forum, temples, and other public buildings, an important trading center for goods from North Africa. It flourished until it was sacked by Vandals in 439 AD and eventually abandoned around 700 AD. Today it is one of Algeria's most important archaeological sites and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982 due to its well-preserved ruins that demonstrate the importance of Roman architecture in North Africa.
