Lake Victoria Collection

Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa, located in East Africa and shared by three countries: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, and is the source of the White Nile River and has a surface area of 68,800 square kilometers. The lake has an average depth of 40 meters with a maximum depth of 80 meters. It contains many species of fish such as tilapia, catfish, carp and several species of cichlids. The lake also supports a large population of birds including herons, pelicans and flamingos. An important resource for local communities who rely on it for fishing and irrigation as well as transportation routes between countries. In recent years there have been concerns about water pollution due to agricultural runoff from surrounding areas which can lead to algal blooms that can be harmful to humans and wildlife alike.
