EDITORS COMMENTS

This powerful print captures the solemnity and grandeur of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. The statue of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, stands tall inside his memorial, serving as a reminder of his significant role in American history. Lincoln's presidency was marked by one of the most challenging periods in US history - the Civil War. As leader of Union forces, he fought against southern states that had seceded from the country. This memorial pays tribute to his unwavering commitment to preserving unity and abolishing slavery. However, this image also evokes a sense of tragedy and loss. On April 14,1865 - Good Friday - President Lincoln's life was tragically cut short when he was assassinated at Fords Theatre by John Wilkes Booth, an actor with political motivations. The photographer skillfully captures both the magnificence and somberness within this frame. The vertical composition emphasizes Lincoln's towering presence while highlighting every intricate detail on his effigy. As we gaze upon this photograph today, it serves as a poignant reminder not only of Lincoln's legacy but also of our nation's resilience during times of turmoil. It is through commemorations like these that we honor those who have shaped our past and continue to inspire us towards a better future for all Americans.
