Young-timers putting on a special old-time music hall show at Allesley Park Community

Young-timers putting on a special old-time music hall show at Allesley Park Community Centre, Coventry, last night. 26 of them, aged between seven and ten, entertained their parents and friends with a repertoire of old-time songs, comedy sketches and the can-can. They are members of the centre's junior youth club and their show, which was also perfomed at the weekend, was to raise funds for a netball pitch in the centre grounds. "The children have come up with a really professional show," said Mrs. M. Botterill, the producer. "They have worked very hard and have had a great deal of encouragement and help from parents."

Blind swimmer Richard Freeman, from Woodmanstren, Surrey Featured May Image

Blind swimmer Richard Freeman, from Woodmanstren, Surrey

Blind swimmer Richard Freeman, from Woodmanstren, Surrey, is currently training for an attempt at the English Channel. Back in 1969 Richard played a major part in a Channel relay swim, but this time he wants to make a solo attempt at what is one of the world's most difficult swimming feats. During his preparations, Richard is getting expert help and advice from Rosemary George of Dover, Kent, who has twice swum the Channel in both directions, and Kevin Murphy, of Kenton, Middlesex, who has swum the Channel both ways non stop, and who holds the record for that other difficult swim, the Irish Channel.
