DNA BioChip being scanned by a laser
DNA BioChip scanning. View of a DNA BioChip being scanned by a laser. The BioChip allows cheap and rapid simultaneous analyses for infectious organisms to be carried out on samples of food and blood. It consists of several tiny dots of DNA on a glass slide. They are glowing green here. Each dot contains a different type of DNA, each designed to bind to a specific gene on the DNA of one of the organisms being tested. The laser causes those dots on which a positive reaction has taken place to light up, indicating the presence of the organism that dot was testing for. The DNA BioChip is manufactured at BioChip Technologies, based in Freiburg, Germany
