London - Lord Mayors Procession at the Law Courts, BR poster, 1951
Poster produced for British Railways (BR), showing the Lord Mayor's procession outside the London Law Courts. This 19th century neo-gothic building was designed by George Edmund Street (1824-1881), and plays an important role in the annual investiture of the Lord Mayor of London. The new mayor, travelling in a ceremonial gold coach built in 1757, is required to present himself to the courts for approval and to swear allegiance to the monarch. Artwork by Berry.
