Bristol Temple Meads Station, c.1936

A view of Diesel Railcar No. 11, built by AEC, waiting at a platform at Bristol Temple Meads in c.1936. These new streamlined railcars were very much of their time and would have been revolutionary when they entered service in the 1930s and began replacing traditional steam locomotives

Vibrant summer sunset, Inside Passage North of Campbell River, Vancouver Island, Northern British Columbia, Canada Featured 23 Aug 2007 Print

Vibrant summer sunset, Inside Passage North of Campbell River, Vancouver Island, Northern British Columbia, Canada

The Inside Passage is a coastal route for ships and boats along a network of passages which weave through the islands on the Pacific NW coast of North America. The route extends from south-eastern Alaska, in the United States, through western British Columbia, in Canada, to north-western Washington state, in the United States. Ships using the route can avoid some of the bad weather in the open ocean and may visit some of the many isolated communities along the route. The Inside Passage is heavily travelled by cruise ships, freighters, tugs with tows, fishing craft and ships of the Alaska Marine Highway, BC Ferries, and Washington State Ferries systems
