Bathing at the Lido, near Venice

Bathers enjoying the warm waters of the Adriatic Sea at the Venice Lido in 1901. The building of the bathing establishment ('stabilimenti'), seen here on the left, was to encourage many Venetians to visit the Lido and within a decade, the erection of smart hotels saw the Lido become a fashionable destination for the smart set. Entrance of Romero to Mexico 1865

Entrance of Matias Romero into Mexico, surrounded by soldiers, as people nearby watch. Romero was Benito Juraez Minister to the United States, who played a vital role in maintaining and increasing US interest and support for Mexico during the French Intervention, despite the Civil War.
