River Frog Collection

River Frogs are a species of North American True Frogs, belonging to the amphibian family, and are found in the eastern and central United States, ranging from New York to Florida and as far west as Texas. River frogs have a greenish-brown back with dark spots on their sides and legs. They have webbed feet for swimming and long hind legs for jumping. Males are usually larger than females, reaching up to 3 inches in length when fully grown. River frogs feed on insects, worms, spiders, snails, small fish and other aquatic invertebrates that they find near rivers or streams. During the breeding season they can be heard calling from shallow water areas where they lay their eggs in clusters of foam nests attached to vegetation or rocks near shorelines. The tadpoles hatch after about two weeks before developing into adult frogs within three months time.
