Black Toad Collection

Black Toads are a species of Nearctic Toads, which are amphibians belonging to the family Bufonidae, and are found in the eastern United States and Canada, typically inhabiting moist areas near streams or ponds. Black Toads have a dark brown or black coloration with small white spots on their backs and sides and can grow up to 4 inches in length and have short legs with webbed feet for swimming. Their diet consists mainly of insects, worms, spiders, snails, and other invertebrates that they hunt at night. During the day they hide under logs or rocks to avoid predators such as snakes or birds of prey. Breeding season occurs from late April to early June when males call out loudly to attract females for mating. After mating takes place, eggs are laid in shallow water where they hatch into tadpoles before eventually transforming into adult Black Toads after several weeks of growth and development.
