African Goshawk Collection

The African Goshawk (Accipitridae Accipitriformes) is a medium-sized bird of prey found throughout sub-Saharan Africa and has a dark brown back and wings, with white underparts and a black head. Its wingspan can reach up to 1 meter in length, and it typically weighs between 500 to 800 grams. This species is an opportunistic hunter that feeds on small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects and birds. It prefers open woodlands or savannahs for its hunting grounds but can also be found in suburban areas where food sources are abundant. The African Goshawk usually nests in trees or on cliffsides near water sources. Breeding season occurs from August to October when the female lays two to four eggs which hatch after about 35 days of incubation by both parents. This species is not considered threatened but its population numbers have been declining due to habitat loss and human disturbance of nesting sites.
