Common Black Hawk Collection

The Common Black Hawk (Accipiter bicolor) is a species of bird of prey belonging to the Accipitridae family, and is found in North, Central and South America, ranging from Mexico to Argentina. The adult has a blackish-brown body with white spots on its wings and tail. Its head is greyish-white with a black cap and yellow eyes. It feeds mainly on small mammals, reptiles and insects but will also take carrion or eggs from other birds' nests. The Common Black Hawk prefers open woodlands and savannas for nesting sites but can also be found in urban areas where there are plenty of food sources available.
