The Crested Auklet (Aethia cristatella) is a small, seabird that belongs to the family of Auks, Charadriiformes, and is found in the North Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea, breeding on islands off Alaska and Russia. The adult a white head with a black crest and yellow bill and has gray-brown upperparts with white spots on its wings, and white underparts with brown streaks. The bird feeds mainly on planktonic crustaceans such as krill and copepods. During breeding season it nests in colonies of several hundred birds in rocky crevices or burrows near the ocean shoreline. In winter it migrates south to spend time at sea where it forages for food along the coasts of Japan and California.
