The Bush Stone Curlew (Burhinidae Charadriiformes) is a large, ground-dwelling bird native to Australia and New Guinea and has a long, down-curved bill and yellow eyes with black pupils. Its plumage is mottled brown, grey and white in colour. They are reach up to 60 cm in length and has a wingspan of around 90 cm. It feeds mainly on insects, small reptiles and amphibians as well as some fruits. During the day it hides among vegetation or lies low on the ground to avoid predators. At night it becomes active, foraging for food while calling loudly with its distinctive 'boo-book' call which can be heard up to 1 km away. Breeding takes place during the warmer months when pairs build shallow scrapes lined with leaves in which they lay their eggs.
