Blacksmith Lapwing Collection

Blacksmith Lapwing (Charadriidae Charadriiformes) is a species of bird found in Africa, India, and parts of Southeast Asia, and is a medium-sized wader with black upperparts and white underparts. The head has a distinctive black crown and white face, while the wings are dark brown with white edges. Its legs are yellowish-green in color. It feeds mainly on insects, worms, and other invertebrates which it finds by probing into the soil or mud with its bill. Breeding takes place during the summer months when they build nests on open ground or short grassland near water bodies such as wetlands or rivers. They lay two to four eggs which hatch after about three weeks incubation period, and are usually seen in small flocks but can also be found alone or in pairs during migration periods when they travel to their wintering grounds further south from their breeding grounds in Africa and India.
