Pacific Gull Collection

The Pacific Gull (Laridae Charadriiformes) is a large seabird native to the coasts of Australia and New Zealand, and is a white-headed gull with a black back, wings, and tail. The bill is yellow with a red spot near the tip. Its legs are pinkish-red in color. The Pacific Gull feeds mainly on fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other marine creatures which it catches by diving from the air or by swimming underwater. It also scavenges for food on beaches and around human settlements. During breeding season, it nests in colonies on rocky islands or coastal cliffs where it lays two to three eggs per clutch which hatch after about 28 days of incubation. This species has been listed as vulnerable due to its declining population due to habitat destruction and predation by invasive species such as foxes and cats. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this species from further decline so that future generations may enjoy its beauty along our coasts for years to come.
