Roseate Tern Collection

The Roseate Tern (Laridae Charadriiformes) is a medium-sized seabird that breeds in tropical and subtropical regions of the world and has a white body with black markings on its wings, tail, and head. Its bill is long and pointed, and its legs are red. The Roseate Tern feeds mainly on small fish which it catches by plunge-diving from the air into the water. During breeding season, it builds a nest out of seaweed or other vegetation near the shoreline or on an island. The female lays one to three eggs which are incubated for about 24 days before hatching. After hatching, both parents take turns caring for their young until they fledge at around 45 days old. The Roseate Tern is listed as Vulnerable by IUCN due to habitat destruction and overfishing in some areas of its range. Conservation efforts have been made to protect this species from further decline in population numbers.
