Royal Tern Collection

The Royal Tern (Thalasseus maximus) is a species of seabird in the Laridae family of Charadriiformes birds, and is found along coastal areas in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia, white head with a black cap and long yellow bill. Its body is grayish-white with black wings and tail and has an orange-red patch on its forehead and legs are orange-yellow. The Royal Tern feeds mainly on fish which it catches by plunge diving into the water from heights up to 30 meters above sea level. It also eats crustaceans, mollusks, insects, worms, and other small aquatic animals. During breeding season they form large colonies near shorelines where they build their nests using seaweed or grasses lined with feathers or downy material from their breast plumage. They lay 2 to 4 eggs which are incubated for about 25 days before hatching into chicks that fledge after another 25 days or so.
