Sabines Gull Collection

Sabine's Gull (Xema sabini) is a small seabird in the Charadriiformes family, and is easily identifiable by its black hood, white forehead, and gray back. The wings are long and pointed with a white trailing edge. The tail is forked with a black band at the tip. Its legs are short and yellowish-brown in color. Sabine's Gulls breed in the Arctic tundra of North America, Europe, and Asia during summer months before migrating south to warmer climates during winter months. They feed mainly on small fish and crustaceans which they catch by plunge-diving into shallow waters or hovering over them while searching for food. They also scavenge on carrion when available. These birds form large flocks when migrating or roosting near shorelines or islands where they can find protection from predators such as gulls, skuas, jaegers, and falcons.
