Collared Kingfisher Collection

The Collared Kingfisher (Todiramphus chloris) is a medium-sized bird belonging to the Coraciiformes family, and is found in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Australia, and New Guinea. The species has a distinctive blue-green body with white underparts and a black collar around its neck. Its bill is long and pointed, while its legs are short and strong. The Collared Kingfisher feeds mainly on small fish, crustaceans, insects, frogs, reptiles, and other aquatic animals which it catches by diving from perches near water bodies or hovering over them before plunging into the water. It nests in burrows dug into riverbanks or tree cavities close to water bodies. This species plays an important role in controlling insect populations by preying on them as well as helping maintain healthy aquatic ecosystems by consuming fish that would otherwise become pests if left unchecked.
