Greater Flamingo Collection

The Greater Flamingo is a species of large wading bird found in Africa, the Middle East, and southern Europe, and is the tallest and heaviest species of flamingo, standing up to 1.2 meters tall and weighing up to 4 kilograms. Its feathers are pinkish-white with black tips on its wings, neck, and tail feathers. Its bill is long, curved downwards at the tip, and bright red or orange in coloration. The Greater Flamingo feeds on small aquatic creatures such as shrimp, mollusks, insects and other invertebrates found in shallow water areas such as lagoons or mudflats. It breeds in colonies near water sources where it builds a nest using mud or plant material that can be up to 60 centimeters high. The Greater Flamingo has been listed as a vulnerable species due to habitat destruction caused by human activities such as urbanization or agricultural development that have reduced suitable breeding grounds for this species.
