Sedge Warbler Collection

The Sedge Warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus) is a species of Old World warbler in the family Acrocephalidae, and is found in Europe, Asia and parts of Africa, and is a small bird, typically measuring 12-14 cm in length and weighing 12-18 g. Its plumage is mainly brownish grey with darker streaking on its back and wings, and pale yellowish underparts, distinctive song which includes chattering notes followed by a trill or buzzy warble. During the breeding season it builds its nest close to water, often among reeds or rushes. It feeds mainly on insects but will also take some seeds and other plant material when available. The Sedge Warbler is an important species for conservation as it has suffered declines due to habitat loss from human activities such as drainage of wetlands for agriculture or urban development.
