Meadow Pipit Collection

The Meadow Pipit (Anthus pratensis) is a small passerine bird belonging to the Wagtails and Pipits family, and is found across much of Europe, Asia and North America, brownish-grey upper body with a white underbelly, and its tail is usually held upright when in flight. Its call is a loud "tseeep" or "tswee", which can be heard from some distance away. This species feeds on insects, spiders, seeds and berries, which it finds on the ground or in low vegetation. During the breeding season it builds its nest on the ground among grasses or heathers. It lays up to six eggs that are incubated by both parents for 12-14 days before hatching. The young fledge after another 14-16 days of care from their parents before they become independent at around 28 days old.
