Chinstrap Collection

Chinstrap penguins are a species of penguin found in the Southern Ocean and Antarctica, and are easily identified by the black band that runs across their head, giving them their name, and are medium-sized birds, standing up to 70 cm tall and weighing up to 4 kg. They have black backs and white fronts with a distinctive white line running from behind each eye down to their chin. Chinstraps feed mainly on krill, squid, fish, and other small marine animals. They live in large colonies on rocky shores or ice shelves near the ocean where they can find food easily. Chinstrap penguins lay two eggs per breeding season which hatch after about 35 days of incubation by both parents. The chicks fledge after around 50 days but remain dependent on their parents for several months afterwards until they can hunt for themselves.
