Magellanic Penguin Collection

The Magellanic Penguin (Spheniscus magellanicus) is a species of penguin found in the South American countries of Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland Islands, and are medium-sized penguins, reaching up to 70 cm in height and weighing up to 6 kg. They have a black head and back with white underparts, as well as two black bands across their chest, and are monogamous and mate for life. They build nests out of stones near the shoreline where they lay two eggs each breeding season. The chicks hatch after about 40 days and remain with their parents until they reach maturity at around 3 years old. These birds feed mainly on small fish such as anchovies, sardines, squid, krill, crustaceans and mollusks which they catch while swimming in the ocean waters off South America's coastlines. The Magellanic Penguin is classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN due to declining populations caused by overfishing of its food sources by humans.
