Magellanic Collection

Magellanic penguins are a species of penguin native to South America, and are the largest species of penguin found on the continent, and they can be found along the coasts of Chile and Argentina. Magellanic penguins have black heads and backs, white fronts, and two black bands across their chests. They feed mainly on small fish such as anchovies and sardines, which they catch by diving underwater. During breeding season, Magellanic penguins form large colonies where they build nests out of stones or mud. The female lays two eggs in each nest which both parents take turns incubating for about 40 days until hatching occurs. After hatching, both parents share in feeding duties until the chicks are ready to fledge at around 8 weeks old. Magellanic Penguins face threats from climate change as well as overfishing which reduces their food supply, but conservation efforts have been successful in helping to protect them from extinction.
