Toco Toucan Collection

The Toco Toucan (Ramphastos toco) is a large and colorful bird native to South America, and is the largest and probably the best-known species in the toucan family, Piciformes and has a very distinctive black body with white throat, yellow breast and blue flight feathers. Its most recognizable feature is its huge orange bill which can be up to 7 inches long. The Toco Toucan uses its bill for reaching fruit that would otherwise be inaccessible, as well as for defense against predators. Its diet consists mainly of fruits, but it will also eat insects and small vertebrates such as lizards or frogs when available. The Toco Toucan lives in tropical forests where it builds nests in tree cavities or on branches high up in trees, and is an important seed disperser for many species of plants due to its wide range of habitat preferences and ability to fly long distances while carrying large amounts of fruit seeds in its bill.
