Southern Fulmar Collection

The Southern Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialoides) is a species of seabird in the petrel family, and is found in the southern hemisphere, primarily in Antarctica and sub-Antarctic islands. They have a white body with grey wings, and their beaks are hooked at the tip. Southern Fulmars feed on fish, krill, squid and other small marine animals which they catch by diving into the ocean from heights of up to 30 meters. They nest on cliffs or rocky outcrops near the sea and lay one egg per year. The chicks fledge after about 70 days but remain dependent on their parents for several months afterwards, and are long-lived birds with some individuals reaching over 40 years old.
