Black Necked Stork Collection

The Black Necked Stork is a large wading bird native to the wetlands of Australia, India, and Southeast Asia and has a black head and neck with white patches on its wings and tail. Its long legs are yellowish-green in color. The Black Necked Stork feeds mainly on fish, frogs, crustaceans, insects, and small reptiles. It builds its nest in trees near water bodies such as lakes or rivers. During the breeding season it performs elaborate courtship displays involving bowing and wing flapping to attract a mate. The female lays two to four eggs which are incubated by both parents for about 30 days before hatching. The chicks fledge after about 50 days but remain dependent on their parents for several weeks afterwards until they can fend for themselves. This species is listed as Near Threatened due to habitat destruction from human activities such as farming and urbanization.
