Rock Shag Collection

Rock Shags (Phalacrocorax magellanicus) are a species of Suliformes birds found in the coastal areas of South America, including Chile, Argentina and the Falkland Islands, and are medium-sized birds with a black head and neck, white chest and belly, gray back and wings, yellow eyes and yellow legs. Rock Shags feed mainly on fish but will also eat crustaceans, mollusks and other small aquatic animals. They nest in colonies on rocky cliffs or islands near the shoreline. The breeding season for Rock Shags is from October to March when they lay two to three eggs in nests made of seaweed or grasses. These birds are social creatures that can often be seen flying together in large flocks along the coastline or fishing in shallow waters close to shore, and are an important part of their local ecosystems as they help keep populations of small fish under control by preying upon them for food.
