Trumpeter Swan Collection

The Trumpeter Swan is a large waterfowl bird native to North America, and is the largest native waterfowl in North America, with an average wingspan of 8 feet and a weight of up to 30 pounds, black bill, white plumage, and yellow eyes. Its call is loud and distinctive, resembling the sound of a trumpet, and are found mainly in wetlands such as marshes, ponds, lakes, rivers and streams across Canada and Alaska. During the winter months they migrate southward to areas with more open water such as lakes or rivers in the United States. They feed on aquatic vegetation such as pondweed or wild celery but will also eat small fish or insects if available. The Trumpeter Swan is listed as threatened due to habitat loss from human activities such as development and pollution but their population numbers have been increasing since protection was put into place in 1935 by the US Fish & Wildlife Service.
