Oyster Crab Collection

Oyster crabs are small, bottom-dwelling crustaceans that live in the shallow waters of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and are usually found attached to oysters, clams, mussels, and other shellfish. Oyster crabs have a hard outer shell that is covered with spines and hairs. They have two pairs of antennae on their heads and five pairs of legs on their bodies. Oyster crabs feed mainly on plankton but will also scavenge for food such as dead fish or mollusks. They reproduce by releasing eggs into the water column which then hatch into larvae before settling onto a suitable substrate where they grow into adults, and are an important part of marine ecosystems as they help to keep populations of other species in check by consuming excess food sources such as algae or detritus from the ocean floor.
