Icelandic Horse Collection

The Icelandic Horse is a breed of horse native to Iceland, and is a small but strong horse, with an average height of 13-14 hands and weighing between 400-600 pounds. Its coat can be any color, including white, black, dun (a yellowish brown), grey and chestnut and has a double mane and long flowing tail. The breed is known for its surefootedness on rough terrain and its ability to traverse deep snow without sinking in and are known for their five gaits: the walk, trot, canter/gallop, tölt (a four beat lateral ambling gait) and skeið (a fast paced gait). The Icelandic Horse is considered hardy and intelligent with an even temperament making them suitable for riding by both adults and children alike, and are used in many disciplines such as dressage, show jumping, cross country riding as well as recreational activities such as trail rides or pleasure rides.
