American Sole Collection

American Sole is a species of fish found in the waters of the United States, and is a member of the family Pleuronectidae, which includes flounders and halibuts. American Sole has an oval-shaped body with a brownish-gray coloration on its upper side and white on its underside. Its eyes are located on one side of its head, giving it the characteristic "flatfish" look and can grow up to 18 inches in length and weigh up to 5 pounds. An important commercial species, harvested for food by both recreational and commercial fishermen across the country. Its flesh is firm, mild-flavored, and low in fat content, making it popular for use in dishes such as fish tacos or fish sandwiches. The population has been declining due to overfishing and habitat destruction; however, efforts are being made to protect this species from further decline through sustainable fishing practices and habitat restoration programs.
