Buffalo Fish Collection

Buffalo fish are freshwater fish that belong to the Catostomidae family, and are native to North America and can be found in rivers, lakes, and streams from Canada to Mexico. They have a large head with a protruding lower jaw and two sets of barbels on their chin. Their bodies are usually olive-green or brownish in color with dark mottling along their sides and can grow up to 24 inches long and weigh up to 10 pounds. Buffalo fish feed on aquatic insects, crustaceans, small fishes, and plant matter. They spawn in shallow waters during the spring months when water temperatures reach 70°F or higher. Anglers often use live bait such as worms or minnows for fishing buffalo fish due to their voracious appetite for food items that move around in the water column.
