Danio is a genus of small freshwater fish native to South and Southeast Asia, and are popular aquarium fish, known for their bright colors and active swimming behavior. Danio species range in size from 2–6 cm in length and can live up to five years with proper care, and are omnivorous, eating both plant matter and small invertebrates such as insect larvae. Danio species prefer warm water temperatures between 72-78°F, so they should be kept in an aquarium with a heater or filter that maintains the temperature within this range and can peaceful fish that do well when kept in groups of 6 or more individuals, although they may become aggressive when overcrowded or stressed.
