White Admiral Collection

White Admiral butterflies are a species of butterfly found in North America, and are medium-sized, with wingspans ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 inches (6-9 cm). The upper side of the wings is black with white bands and spots, while the underside is brownish gray with white bands and spots. The caterpillars feed on various species of honeysuckle, including Lonicera periclymenum, Lonicera xylosteum, and Lonicera tatarica. Adults feed on nectar from flowers such as thistles, vetches, clovers, knapweeds and other members of the aster family. White Admiral butterflies are active during the day in sunny weather but can be seen resting in shady areas during hot weather or when it rains and can be found in woodlands near streams or rivers as well as open fields and meadows where they lay their eggs on honeysuckle plants for their larvae to feed upon when they hatch.
