Mantled Howler Monkey Collection

The Mantled Howler Monkey (Atelidae) is a species of New World monkey found in Central and South America, and are the largest of the howler monkeys, and are easily identified by their loud, deep howls that can be heard up to 3 miles away. These primates have long, thick fur which ranges from black to brown in color and a prehensile tail which they use for balance when climbing trees. They live in groups of 10-20 individuals, with one dominant male leading the group. Their diet consists mainly of leaves, flowers, fruits and nuts, and are considered an endangered species due to habitat destruction caused by deforestation and hunting for bushmeat or pet trade purposes. Conservation efforts have been put into place to protect this species from further decline.
