Bluebuck Collection

Bluebuck is a species of antelope that was once native to the southwestern Cape region of South Africa. It was the first large mammal to become extinct in modern times, and it disappeared from its natural habitat in 1800. It had a light brown coat with white underparts and a black stripe running along its back. Its horns were short and curved backwards, with the tips pointing towards its neck. The Bluebuck was an herbivore, feeding on grasses, shrubs, fruits and leaves. It lived in small herds of up to 10 individuals which roamed open grasslands and woodlands near water sources. Unfortunately, due to hunting for meat and hides as well as habitat destruction caused by human activities such as farming and urbanization, this species became extinct by 1800s.
