Bos primigenius Collection

Bos primigenius, commonly known as the Aurochs, is a species of wild cattle that lived in Europe, Asia and North Africa, and is believed to be the ancestor of domestic cattle. The Aurochs were large animals with a shoulder height of up to 6 feet and weighing up to 1.5 tons. They had long horns that curved upwards and outwards from their heads, which could reach lengths of over 3 feet. They were dark brown in color with white stripes along their backs and legs. The last recorded sighting of an Aurochs was in 1627 when it was killed by poachers in Poland. Today, Bos primigenius is extinct but its legacy lives on through its descendants - domestic cattle - which are found all over the world today.
