Rhesus Monkey Collection

Rhesus monkeys (Cercopithecidae) are a species of Old World monkeys native to South and Southeast Asia, and are among the most widespread and recognizable primates, due to their wide range and distinctive features. Rhesus monkeys have long, brown fur with lighter patches on the face, hands, feet, and chest. They have long tails that can be used for balance when they move through trees. Rhesus monkeys live in large groups of up to 50 individuals in forests or near human settlements. They feed mainly on fruits, leaves, flowers and insects but will also eat small animals such as lizards or birds if given the opportunity. In captivity they can live up to 25 years old but in the wild their life expectancy is much shorter due to predation from larger animals such as leopards or tigers. Rhesus monkey populations are threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation as well as hunting for food or sport by humans.
