African Elephant Collection

African elephants are the largest land animals on Earth and are part of the Elephantidae family and can weigh up to 13,000 pounds and grow up to 13 feet tall. African elephants have large ears that help them regulate their body temperature, a long trunk used for communication and grasping objects, four large tusks used for digging and defense, and two ivory-colored teeth known as "ivory tusks". African elephants live in savannas, grasslands, forests, deserts, and wetlands across sub-Saharan Africa. They feed on grasses, leaves from trees and bushes, bark from trees, fruits from trees or bushes when available. Elephants also drink up to 50 gallons of water per day, and are social creatures that live in herds led by a matriarchal leader. They communicate with each other through sound waves known as infrasound which is too low for humans to hear, and are endangered due to poaching for their ivory tusks which has caused their population numbers to decline drastically over the past few decades.
