Gray Whale Collection

The Gray Whale (Eschrichtius robustus) is a large mammal that can be found in the North Pacific Ocean, and is one of the most well-known species of whales, and it has an iconic grayish-black coloration. They are grow up to 15 meters in length and weigh up to 40 tons. They feed mainly on small crustaceans such as krill, amphipods, and copepods which they filter from the water with their baleen plates. During the summer months, they migrate thousands of miles from their feeding grounds in Alaska to their breeding grounds off Mexico's Baja California peninsula and are known for their acrobatic displays which include breaching and spyhopping out of the water. Despite being hunted extensively during the 19th century, conservation efforts have helped populations recover significantly since then and today there are around 26,000 individuals left in existence.
