Narwhal Collection

Narwhals (Monodontidae) are a type of mammal found in the Arctic Ocean and its surrounding seas, and are closely related to the beluga whale and have a distinctive tusk protruding from their head and can grow up to 17 feet long and weigh up to 3,500 pounds. They feed mainly on fish, squid, shrimp, and other invertebrates. Narwhals live in small pods of 10-20 individuals that migrate seasonally between different areas of the Arctic Ocean. The tusk is actually an elongated tooth that can be used for sensing prey or defending against predators such as killer whales or polar bears and are known for their unique vocalizations which they use to communicate with each other underwater. Conservation efforts have been put in place to protect these animals from overfishing and climate change which threaten their habitat and food sources.
