Galßpagos Sea Lion Collection

Galapagos sea lions (Otariidae) are a species of eared seals found in the Galapagos Islands, and are one of the largest species of sea lions, reaching up to 2.5 meters in length and weighing up to 300 kilograms. They have a thick fur coat that is usually dark brown or black on top and lighter underneath, with some males having lighter manes around their necks. Galapagos sea lions are social animals that live in large colonies on land and feed mainly on fish, squid, octopus, and crustaceans and can dive up to 200 meters deep for food and stay underwater for over 20 minutes at a time. During breeding season they form large groups called harems where males compete for females by displaying their size and strength through physical displays such as roaring, barking, head-butting, and wrestling matches. Galapagos sea lions play an important role in the local ecosystem by helping maintain healthy fish populations through predation as well as providing nutrients to other marine life through their waste products.
