Northern Fur Seal Collection

The Northern Fur Seal (Otariidae) is a species of mammal in the family Otariidae, and are found in the North Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea, from Japan to California. Northern Fur Seals have a thick layer of fur that helps them stay warm in cold waters, and are excellent swimmers and can dive up to 600 meters deep for food. Their diet consists mostly of fish, squid, and crustaceans. Males are much larger than females and can reach lengths up to 2 meters long with weights up to 300 kgs. Females typically weigh between 30-50 kgs and reach lengths of 1 meter or less. Northern Fur Seals breed during the summer months on rocky islands off the coastlines where they form large colonies for protection against predators such as killer whales, sharks, and sea lions. The population has been declining due to overfishing but is currently listed as "Least Concern" by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species due to conservation efforts being made by governments around the world.
