Moloch Collection

Moloch is a genus of mammals in the family Pitheciidae, and is native to Australia and includes two species, the northern and southern species, and are small primates with a body length of about 25 cm and a tail length of around 20 cm. They have thick fur that is usually grey or brown in colour, with white patches on their face, chest, and legs, and are active during the day and feed mainly on fruits, leaves, flowers, insects, lizards, birds' eggs and small vertebrates. They live in groups of up to 10 individuals that occupy overlapping home ranges within which they forage for food. They use vocalisations to communicate with each other as well as scent marking to mark their territories, and are listed as least concern by the IUCN Red List due to their wide range across Australia's arid regions but may be threatened by habitat destruction from human activities such as mining or grazing livestock.
