Proboscis Monkey Collection

The Proboscis Monkey (Nasalis larvatus) is a species of Old World monkey found in the Southeast Asian island of Borneo, and is an arboreal and mainly herbivorous primate, and is easily recognizable by its large, pendulous nose. The monkey has a long body with short limbs and a thick fur coat that ranges from yellowish-brown to greyish-brown in color. Males are larger than females, with an average body length of 60–75 cm (24–30 inches). They have long tails which can reach up to 75 cm (30 inches) in length. Proboscis Monkeys live in groups of 10 to 30 individuals, usually consisting of one adult male, several adult females and their offspring. They feed mainly on leaves, fruits and seeds but also eat insects when available. These monkeys are endangered due to habitat destruction caused by logging activities as well as hunting for meat or traditional medicine purposes.
