Quadrimaculatus is a genus of sciuridae mammals, also known as the four-spotted ground squirrel, and are native to Central Asia, from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan to western China. They have a distinctive color pattern with four spots on their back and two on their sides, and are typically grayish-brown in color with white underparts and a black tail tip. These animals live in open grasslands or steppes, where they feed mainly on seeds, fruits, nuts, insects and other small invertebrates, and are diurnal animals that spend most of the day foraging for food or resting in burrows they dig themselves, and are be found alone or in small groups of up to five individuals during the summer months when food is abundant. During winter months they hibernate underground until spring arrives again.
