Sloth Bear Collection

The sloth bear is a species of mammal native to the Indian subcontinent, and is one of three living species of bear and the only one found in India, and are characterized by their shaggy black fur, long snouts, and long claws that they use to dig for food. They feed mainly on termites, ants, fruits, and honey. They have poor eyesight but an excellent sense of smell which helps them locate food sources in their environment, and are solitary animals but will come together during mating season or when there is a plentiful food source available. They live in forests and grasslands throughout India and Sri Lanka where they face threats from habitat loss due to deforestation as well as poaching for their fur or body parts used in traditional medicine. Conservation efforts have been put into place to help protect this species from further decline.
